What is AIA? and its History

A growing number of peoples of (Asian) Indian heritage are (permanent) residents and many of them have become citizens of the United States of America. A non-profit organization, Association of Indians in America (AIA), was formed to provide a forum of common action to all whose Indian heritage and American commitment offer a bond of unity.

The Association of Indians in America is the oldest national association of Asian Indians in America. It was founded on August 20, 1967 and incorporated in 1971. AIA was granted the IRS tax exempt status in January 1973.

AIA is the grassroots national organization of Asian Indian Immigrants (and their descendants) in the United States, fostered on the democratic principle of "one member one vote", with chapters and membership spread across the United States of America. AIA represents the hopes and aspirations of those immigrants who are united by their common bond of INDIAN HERITAGE and AMERICAN COMMITMENT.

Community Programs

The Association has been holding events listed above to benefit our community for the past 25 years. The AIA volunteers help with organizing these events. For example, the Community Health Fair, which is attended by more than 100 people, is not possible without the generosity of the doctors who donate their Sunday morning to conduct tests and offer advice.

AIA has participated in many national and international social projects over the years, benefiting people both in the USA and India. Our founding mission has always been "to provide a forum of common action to all whose Indian heritage and American commitment offer a bond of unity, and to facilitate involvement of the members in American Community life through Charitable, Cultural and Educational activities."

We are, therefore, asking for your wholehearted support in these events. You can help us by becoming a member of the Association and volunteering your time. If you are too busy to volunteer but would like to become a member of this association, or would like to contribute financially, we welcome you to contact us.
